The journey toward a TB-free Kenya has reached a pivotal milestone. On Friday, May 15, 2026, TB Champions officially joined the inaugural module writing meeting for the Global Fund GC8 Funding Request.

Supported by TB people Global, these champions are now working side-by-side with the National Tuberculosis Leprosy and Lung Disease (NTLD) and other key health partners to shape the future of the national TB response.

A Seat at the Table for Communities

The GC8 Funding Request is a critical framework that will define how resources are allocated for the upcoming grant cycle. By integrating those with lived experience directly into the writing teams, the process ensures that the resulting strategies are not just clinical, but human-centered.

Supported by TB people Global, our champions are providing essential insights into:

  • Community-Led Monitoring: Ensuring outreach strategies are effective at the grassroots level.
  • Breaking Barriers: Identifying real-world obstacles to treatment adherence and access.
  • Rights-Based Care: Embedding human rights and advocacy into the core of TB care.

Coordination for Quality

The inaugural meeting, convened by Perez Auma Wawire of Global Fund Management, focused on establishing the coordination mechanisms necessary for a high-quality, evidence-based submission. Discussions centered on the GC8 Roadmap, various technical modules, and ensuring all participants adhere to governance standards, including the submission of Conflict of Interest (COI) declarations to the Kenya Coordinating Mechanism (KCM).

The Road Ahead

This participation is just the beginning. As the writing process continues, community advocates will:

  • Actively contribute to drafting assigned technical modules.
  • Participate in follow-up Technical Working Group (TWG) sessions.
  • Ensure the final Funding Request reflects the prioritized needs of the community.

This inclusive approach marks a significant step in ensuring that Kenya’s response to Tuberculosis is transparent, responsive, and most importantly inclusive of the people it serves.
